A Student Journey in MedTech

What does it mean to be a student exploring the world of MedTech? In this talk, I will share my journey across different fields at the intersection of engineering, biology, and healthcare, and the experiences that shaped the way I see medical innovation.

From a research internship in bio iontronics, a fascinating emerging field to working on open-source medical devices with N Pulse , and exploring neurotechnology, I have been driven by two things: a curiosity for research and the desire to create technologies that can have a meaningful impact on people’s lives.

Rather than presenting a linear career path, I will share the questions, motivations, discoveries, and lessons that have shaped my journey as a student in MedTech, and how I am trying to find my own way at the intersection of science, technology, and human impact.

About Mathilde

I am Mathilde Guiot, a third-year Mechanical Engineering student at EPFL and a Laidlaw Scholar. I am a curious French student passionate about research, MedTech, and the intersection of engineering, biology, and healthcare. My journey has taken me from a research internship in bioiontronics with Professor Yujia Zhang, to becoming a Team Leader at N Pulse, an open-source medical device association at EPFL, where we are working towards the ambition of participating in the Cybathlon. I am currently in Japan as part of the Laidlaw Scholarship, undertaking an internship at Ruten, where I am exploring the intersection of neuroscience and dysphagia. These experiences have shaped my curiosity for research and strengthened my motivation to develop technologies that can have a meaningful impact on people’s lives.
